Leeds United are likely to offload a number of their out of favour loanees this summer as transfer interest builds, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reporter, one of the most reputable writers covering events at Elland Road, claims on his personal Twitter account that the Whites should be able to get the likes of Vurnon Anita and Hadi Sacko off the books after being shipped out on loan last summer.

There have been a host of temporary exits over the last 12 months at Elland Road, Anita and Sacko joined by Jay-Roy Grot, Caleb Ekuban, Eunan O’Kane, Ouasim Bouy, Yosuke Ideguchi and Paudie O’Connor leaving in the summer, with the likes of Pawel Cibicki and Samu Saiz departing on loan in January.

To say that Marcelo Bielsa was keen on shedding as much dead weight last summer would be an accurate assessment of how things went. Unfortunately for the Argentine, with those exits being loans rather than permanent deals, he now faces the same task 12 months on. With a summer of consolidation after their bitterly disappointing play-off defeat, Bielsa cannot afford to be wasting time with players who he knows are not going to make the grade. On the other hand, with funds said to be limited, can he afford not to give some of the loanees a second chance to prove their worth this summer? They may well have improved and developed during their time away from Elland Road and are able to offer something, be that in the starting XI or as a squad member, to Bielsa. We have seen how Mateusz Klich went from zero to hero this season – could anyone make the same impact after the summer?
