Celtic have seen a bid for promising Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull rejected by the Scottish club, according to BBC Sport.

The broadcaster claims that Celtic and newly promoted Championship side Barnsley are both believed to have offers for Turnbull rejected by Motherwell, with one offer thought to have been around £2million.

It is believed that Motherwell would be wanting to receive a fee of around £3million for the 19-year-old, who has enjoyed an impressive campaign for Motherwell scoring 15 goals and providing six assists.

Good signing for Celtic?

Turnbull would be an excellent addition for Celtic ahead of next season, with the midfielder having a very good campaign with Motherwell last term and displayed the type of form which suggests he could be ready to make the step-up.

At the age of 19 Scotland Under-21 international would be exactly the type of player Neil Lennon’s side should be looking to sign this summer, with Turnbull having the potential to develop into an excellent player in the next few years.

Lennon has already shown he is able to improve the players brought in with potential, having previously signed and the likes of Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk in his first permanent spell in charge at Celtic Park.

Turnbull could well be another player for Celtic to sign and look to help improve, before potentially selling on for a large profit in the coming years.

Likely to happen?

Celtic, as the BBC Sport suggests, are still some way short of Motherwell’s valuation for the teenager and they will be needing to increase their offer if they are to secure a deal this summer.

Lennon’s side will also be likely to face competition, with Barnsley also thought to be interested, meaning Celtic might need to act swiftly to secure Turnbull’s signature.

However, the prospect of playing for a club like Celtic that used to winning domestic titles in recent seasons, might be enough to persuade the midfielder to make the move to Celtic Park this summer if Lennon’s side agree a deal.
