Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd has claimed that Rangers should sell forward Alfredo Morelos.

The eight-time Colombian international split opinion at Ibrox last term, after scoring an incredible 30 goals in 48 appearances but also receiving five red cards.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast, Boyd said that Steven Gerrard’s side could sell Morelos for a decent price and re-invest to strengthen the squad.

“If I was Rangers I would sell him because I think that if you can get the money that teams might be willing to pay, you can go and maybe strengthen your squad or your first team with maybe three or four other players who can make a big difference,” the 35-year-old said.

“I think when Alfredo Morelos plays, he plays up there on his own. A lot of things go through him being that lone striker – he plays a lot for himself.

“I thought Rangers last season towards the end, finished very strongly with Scott Arfield and Jermain Defoe up front. It looked a totally different team. They looked like a team that were playing together.”

OPINION

Well, well, well. What do you do with Alfredo Morelos? It is a modern-day conundrum that Rangers are still yet to get their head around. The fact is, the 22-year-old has a terrific eye for goal – 30 goals tell you that for nothing. There is no doubt he is such a fantastic addition to this team who is guaranteed to get you goals, but on the flipside, he has a terrible disciplinary record. Five red cards in one season is some going, and if he doesn’t clean up his act, there is a real chance Rangers could axe Morelos. However, he is still only 22, which means there is plenty of time for him to learn and grow from his experiences. If Rangers did end up selling the striker this summer, they would have to act fast to get a replacement. Replacing 30 goals is definitely not a quick fix and is one that needs careful consideration.
