Bent delivers warning to Bilic

|

Slaven Bilic is the new West Brom manager, according to talkSPORT and the Telegraph’s John Percy, although we’re still waiting for official confirmation.

He has signed a two-year deal at the Hawthorns and will attempt to get the Baggies back in the Premier League.

Talking on the Jim White show (talkSPORT, Thursday, 12.20pm), Darren Bent had a warning for the former West Ham man.

Asked if he thought it would be a good appointment, Bent said, “As long as he understands how hard that league is to get out of.

“It’s not always the best team that gets out. If he can get in now and get the players in he wants this summer that will be a great start but it’s very tough.”

OPINION

Darren Bent is bang on the money here. The Championship is a brilliant league but it’s incredibly tough. There are plenty of teams that all deserve to be in the Premier League – Leeds, West Brom, Derby,  Swansea and now the three relegated teams from last season’s Premier League, including Fulham. The best teams don’t always go up as Marcelo Bielsa found out at Leeds last season when he was pipped to the top-two by Sheffield United and to the play-offs by Aston Villa. Bilic should know all about the Championship though. He’s managed in the Premier League and is well versed in the English game. We think he’s going to be a brilliant appointment for West Brom and the fact they’ve got him in early can only be good for summer business and a full pre-season with the players. Leeds are favourites for the Championship next season but this will definitely get the odds sliding for the Baggies.
