Atletico Madrid have offered Manchester United winger Alexis Sanchez a three-year contract, according to Nicolo Schria.

The reliable journalist, who writes for leading Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, made the claim on his personal Twitter account.

Sanchez has suffered a downturn in form since moving to Old Trafford from Arsenal in January 2018, but Schria says that the Chilean has been offered a way out by Atletico coach Diego Simeone.

Good move for United?

This is one move which Manchester United fans would surely love to see happen. Sanchez was signed as a player who could deliver silverware to Old Trafford when Jose Mourinho was at the helm, but it has not worked out that way in the slightest. Sanchez has been a flop and there is no need to keep him around as he will offer nothing going forward. What’s more, if reports concerning Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for the summer transfer window are true, Sanchez is part of the clear-out of players expected to be staged, with younger players who can breathe life back into the team expected to be signed.

Likely to happen?

There is a real chance. There is no doubt that Sanchez will want the move himself, because his career has hit a dead end at Old Trafford and there is no way that he will want to stay to try to reforge his reputation. That is shot, and the best way to build it back up would be to begin banging the goals in again for a different side. And Atletico would offer a great opportunity to do this.
