The Bin Zayed Group’s proposed takeover of Newcastle United is progressing well, according to The Sun journalist Justin Allen.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a buyout from the Dubai-based consortium for a few weeks now, but things have gone quiet in terms of official information.

According to Allen, however, the bid is still on track.

Writing on his personal Twitter, he said: “I’ve been told it’s progressing well.

“Still with the Premier League … It is a lengthy process so can understand the frustration.

“Even completing the purchase of a flat can take time but imagine a £350m+ deal.”

OPINION

This is more promising at least. With many journalists and pundits beginning to get quite vocal in their doubts over the Bin Zayed’s chances of buying Newcastle, it’s refreshing to hear somebody speak in more positive terms. Whether there is any truth in what Allen is saying remains to be seen, but for a fanbase starved of hope, this is at least something. That being said, it is important to remember that The Sun broke this story in the first place. Not to call into question Allen’s credentials, but if there was an outlet keen to save face over the takeover rumours, it would be his. Is he trying to stoke the fires to keep up the credibility of the story, or is he just getting his information from different sources to everybody else? At the moment, with all of this subterfuge, nobody can say for definite. The wait goes on.
