Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has lined up Kilmarnock’s Eamonn Brophy as a replacement for Alfredo Morelos as they prepare to let the Colombian leave Ibrox this summer, according to Teamtalk.

The news outlet claim that the Gers are to green light the departure of the 22-year-old international forward, who scored 30 goals across all competitions this season, and have set their sights on Killie’s Brophy to take his place.

The 23-year-old scored 12 goals in 33 appearances in both league and cup competitions this season and is said to be wanted by a number of clubs in England’s Championship, including Leeds United and Derby County.

Good move for Rangers?

Replacing Morelos is going to be an almost impossible task – you do not find many strikers who are going to score as consistently as he has this season.

The problem for the Light Blues is that he has also found himself on the wrong side of the law far too much and it seems as though patience has run out – that, or they feel this is the best time to cash in on his talents and improve their squad.

Brophy is by no means a prolific hitman, with 22 goals in 102 league appearances but at 23-years-old he has plenty of potential to improve and with the quality of the Rangers squad, he could find himself banging in the goals on a regular basis.

Morelos was not an inspiring signing, having arrived as an unknown quantity for very little – maybe Brophy can replicate that at Ibrox.

Likely to happen?

If Rangers want him and Celtic do not, then they will be the front runners in Scotland.

The problem comes if English sides choose to pounce this summer, for they can offer far more money and the chance to fire the club to the Premier League.

Only time will tell, but if Rangers act fast, they might well have a chance.
