Rangers are plotting a move for Nottingham Forest forward Karim Ansarifard this summer, according to Football Insider

The outlet claim that the Scottish giants are looking for attacking options to bolster their effectiveness going forward, with the long-term future of Alfredo Morelos looking uncertain.

A Rangers source told Football Insider that Ansarifard reportedly emerged on Steven Gerrard’s radar following an excellent end to his Championship campaign this season with Forest, where he scored two goals for his side.

It is also believed that the player’s experience in European competitions with Olympiacos was a factor regarding the growing interest coming from the Scottish club.

Good move for Rangers?

Possibly not, considering that the player only really started scoring goals for Forest towards the end of the Championship season.

It seems he may not be the ideal player to bring into the club if Gerrard is looking for a prolific goalscorer who can do a job at the standard, which he most definitely is.

Although Ansarifard has a brilliant record from his time spent with Olympiacos, where he scored 22 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions, and also has a good record for the Iranian international side, where he’s managed 18 goals in 74 appearances, he doesn’t seem like the right man to take Rangers forward.

Likely to happen?

This one has a likelihood of happening for sure, if Gerrard were to pursue the forward.

Ansarifard is thought to be contracted to Forest until 2020 (Source: Transfermrkt) although the club got him for nothing when he was a free agent back in November 2018, so any chance for the club to cash in on him would likely end up happening.

However, it seems unlikely that Rangers would settle for the 29-year old, especially with there being a lengthy period of time for the club to look at other attacking options before the SPL season starts again after the summer window.
