OPINION

West Ham supporters have taken to Twitter to praise the club confirming, on their official website, the signing of experienced 33-year-old goalkeeper Roberto. The keeper has agreed terms to arrive at the start of July having been signed on a free transfer following his contract expiring with La Liga side Espanyol. Roberto has signed a two-year deal with the Hammers and will provide plenty of experience having played over 300 games in spells in Spain, Portugal and Greece. Hammers supporters are drooling over the signing of Roberto, but it is difficult to see why, with Adrian already capable of providing able back up and experience to the club’s squad. However, Adrian will probably be wanting to go and get regular game time next season after spending the year behind Lukasz Fabianski in West Ham’s pecking order. Therefore the signing of Roberto does make sense, but West Ham could have been better served trying to ensure that they kept hold of Adrian this summer.
