West Brom face a significant hurdle in trying to overhaul their squad this summer due to the big wages that the current players already have at the Hawthorns, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that the Baggies have some hefty wages on their books and that their transfer plans for the off season could be scuppered if they cannot get them offloaded this summer,

The Baggies will be preparing for another season in the Championship after falling to a penalty shootout defeat to midlands rivals Aston Villa in the play-off semi finals, with the future of temporary manager James Shan also still up in the air.

Opinion

West Brom would have been hoping to seal an immediate return to the Premier League this season in order to avoid having to undergo major changes both on and off the field. Instead they have another campaign of second tier football, which is of course nowhere near as financially lucrative as the top flight, to prepare for and that should mean getting some players in who are capable of challenging for promotion this time next year. However, big wages means that they are currently limited as to who they could get on board and if they cannot get those out this summer then they are going to have a tough job recruiting the sort of player they need. They might have to accept losing some for less money than they would usually look for just to clear up the wage bill – otherwise they could find themselves in the same situation they are in now in 12 months.
