Aston Villa have received a boost in their pursuit of Tyrone Mings as he tells parent club Bournemouth he wants to leave the club, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football outlet claims that the 26-year-old is eager to join Villa permanently after settling in so well since arriving on loan. This news comes days after it was reported by the Times that Smith was prepared to pay £15million for the enforcer.

Mings spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park and was a mainstay in Dean Smith’s side that eventually gained promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

It was Mings that helped transform Villa from a mid-table team into promotion winners by helping to solve their defensive woes. The English defender made 18 appearances in his brief stop, scoring two goals as he guided the Villans back to the top flight after their three year absence.

OPINION

This would be a huge transfer for all involved at Aston Villa, should Dean Smith be able to get the deal concluded. The impact Tyrone Mings had at the club since arriving was nothing short of miraculous as he transformed the Villans defence massively for the better. The 26-year-old managed to help his side keep six clean-sheets in his 15 league outings and only saw defeat twice. His partnership with fellow loanee Axel Tuanzebe who along with keeper Jed Steer was pivotal in their promotion effort and it would come as no surprise that both parties want the deal to become a permanent move. Things never materialised for Mings at Bournemouth after he joined the Cherries from Ipswich in 2015 after he suffered a serious injury, but this move to Villa has revitalised his career and the permanent move would give him a real chance to kick on and become a Premier League regular for many years to come.
