Aston Villa have entered the race for £10 million Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, according to the Scottish Sun.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Rangers, and made such an impression north of the border that he was named Young Player of the Year for the Scottish Premiership.

Kent’s loan spell in Glasgow has come to an end, however, and it is understood that the Villans are keen to snap him up this summer, regardless of if they get promoted or not.

Good move for Villa?

In a word, yes. Kent has been exemplary for Rangers this season, and has looked every inch a player ready to make the next step in his career. He is direct and pacy, and has an eye for goal too. If Villa go up, he looks ready to cut it in the top flight, and if they don’t then you would fancy him to be one of the most dangerous players in the Championship. Kent is a talent, the sort of talent who doesn’t become available for £10 million very often. He would be a great signing.

Likely to happen?

Kent looks as if he is surplus to requirements at Anfield. He did well at Ibrox this year, but you can’t really see any realistic way that he might break into the first team at his parent club. As such, the only real question is whether the Reds will seek to move him on permanently, or if they will just look to loan him out again. If it is the former, then Villa stand just as good a chance as anybody, and the allure of Premier League football, should they get it, could be too much to ignore.
