Billionaire-owned club Valencia are ready to help Leeds offload midfielder Samu Saiz and have tabled a £2.5m bid, according to Football Insider

The report claims that the bid is way below Leeds’ valuation of £6million – that’s the fee that was set as the option for Getafe where Saiz spent the second half of the season on loan.

That didn’t work out for Saiz and Getafe won’t be triggering the option to make the move permanent.

Valencia – owned by billionaire Peter Lim – were said to be very keen on Saiz, who was implicated in a match-fixing scandal this week.

OPINION

The £2.5million bid might be less than Leeds were hoping to get for Saiz but, given the recent allegations they should probably snap Valencia’s hand off. However, the report claims the bid was made before this story broke and that could have implications on both his sale and value. Saiz – a Victor Orta signing – joined for £3m from Huesca in 2017 and it was looking like Leeds would make a decent profit when he left in January. However, that deal looks like it’s been mishandled now. Saiz wanted to leave and it happened abruptly but Leeds should have either got rid of him permanently and used the money to buy Dan James, or set an obligation to buy as part of any loan. It looks like that might backfire now with Valencia only bidding £2.5m and Saiz now seen as damaged goods – more so after the match-fixing allegations. Still, £2.5m is better than nothing and would bring in a good Championship player.
