Manchester United are keen on signing Stoke City youngster Nathan Collins, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claims that former United midfielder Darren Fletcher – who was drafted in to recommend potential additions to boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – has convinced the Norwegian that the 18-year-old is one to keep an eye on.

The report adds that the Red Devils are “poised to make an offer” for Collins, who broke into Stoke’s team at the end of this season just gone and made five appearances in all competitions.

Good move for United?

After 21-year-old Swansea City winger Daniel James was linked with a move to United earlier this month, it would seem – if this report is true – that these are the kinds of players Solskjaer is after this summer; youngsters who can breathe life into a stagnant United squad.

There are lots of players who need clearing out – the likes of Alexis Sanchez for example – and signing young players like these could reinvigorate the passion and desire that has been absent from the United squad for weeks.

In terms of Collins himself, he is only 18 years of age and so it is unlikely to stick around next season if he does sign. But he has certainly impressed for Stoke when he has played this term and it could prove to be a good investment.

Likely to happen?

If Solskjaer is after this kind of player, then he could go for Collins. He is a promising young talent who could make the grade at some point.

As mentioned before, the youngster is unlikely to claim a place in United’s back line right now, so maybe they will pass up on this one until he has got some more experience under his belt.
