Tottenham have made contact with Barcelona as they aim to start negotiations about signing Brazilian attacker Malcom, according to Sport.

The Spanish news outlet claims that Spurs are already in contact with Barca about potentially signing Andre Gomes and have taken advantage of those talks to also try and open a dialogue about 22-year-old Malcom.

It is understood that Malcom is willing to listen to offers after a disappointing debut season at the Nou Camp and Barca would consider offloading the ex-Bordeaux attacker if they can recoup the £35million they paid for him last summer.

Good move for Tottenham?

Malcom has had a poor season with Barcelona but he could still be a great signing for Mauricio Pochettino if he is able to strike a deal for the Brazilian in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old only made 23 appearances across all competitions for Barca this term, in which he scored four goals – one against Real Madrid – and supplied two assists.

If Spurs want to revamp their attacking force then Malcom would be an upgrade on someone like Erik Lamela or he could also add a great deal of depth to Pochettino’s existing options.

£35million is not a bad fee for Malcom either, especially when you consider that his release clause is reportedly set at £350million [ESPN].

Malcom shouldn’t be a priority signing in the summer but if there are funds left towards the end of the window then Tottenham should seriously consider snapping him up.

Likely to happen?

Malcom is going to attract a lot of attention in the summer if he is willing to consider leaving Barcelona after just one season.

Spurs are reportedly interest, as are Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal.

Pochettino and Daniel Levy might want to sort out Spurs’ midfield and defence before adding to their attack and by the time it comes to that, they might have already missed out on Malcom.
