Tottenham are plotting a move for Massimiliano Allegri to replace Mauricio Pochettino if the Argentine leaves the club this summer, according to a report from the Express

The outlet report that Allegri is Tottenham’s main managerial target if Pochettino leaves the club, with the Argentine wanted by Allegri’s former employers Juventus, according to the Express.

Allegri’s departure from Juventus, with who he has won five successive Serie A titles, was confirmed on Friday with the Italian thought to have been allowed to leave the club after failing to win the Champions League.

The Italian is believed to be open to move a to the Premier League, but he would need to be given some assurances regarding Tottenham’s budget in the summer transfer window if he is to take over should Pochettino leave.

OPINION

It is going to be very interesting to see what happens with the future of Pochettino at Tottenham after the Champions League final with Liverpool. The Argentine had done an excellent job during his spell in charge of Spurs, but he might feel he has taken them as far as he can especially if he manages to guide the club to victory against Liverpool in Madrid. That would potentially leave a massive job for Daniel Levy to find a replacement, but Allegri would be a very decent alternative for Tottenham if they did make a move for the Italian. Allegri has vast experience of winning major titles, having won five Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia trophies whilst at Juventus, as well as also winning the Italian league title during his spell at AC Milan. Therefore Tottenham would be gaining the services of a coach who is used to picking up silverware and that could be just the sort of experience the club need to add some domestic and European success to their progress they have made in the last few seasons. Whatever happens with Pochettino, Tottenham will need to give whoever is in charge the funds needed to strengthen the squad this summer, or they will risk losing some of the momentum they have gained over the last few years.
