Tottenham are interested in Fenerbache and Macedonia teenage midfielder Elif Elmas, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The outlet report that the promising 19-year-old midfielder is being tracked by Manchester United, and is also thought to be interesting Tottenham and Manchester City.

Elmas is thought to be one of the brightest young talents in Europe at the moment, and has already won ten senior international caps for his country Macedonia, scoring twice against Latvia in a qualifier for Euro 2020 in March, despite still being a teenager.

Good move for Tottenham?

Tottenham have an excellent recent history with developing young and talented players, such as Elmas, and giving them an opportunity in their first team under Mauricio Pochettino.

Elmas has already demonstrated his potential to take his promising talent into senior football, making 16 appearances for Fenerbache and scoring three times in the Turkish top flight, as well as his ten caps with the Macedonian national team.

Spurs could do with adding some extra players to Pochettino’s squad this summer, after failing to make a single signing in either of the last two transfer windows, and Elmas could be a useful player to bring in and allow him to build his way into Tottenham’s first team, in a similar way to what happened with Deli Ali when he was signed from MK Dons.

Although Tottenham do need to secure some ready mad first team talent this summer, having the option to develop another bright young player would be probably be a welcome one to Pochettino next season.

Likely to happen?

Tottenham are likely to face a lot of competition for the signature of Elmas this summer, who is thought to be wanted by the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City, which could make it difficult for Pochettino to convince him that Spurs is the right place for him to develop if he signs for the club.

Daniel Levy is not someone who regularly gets involved in a bidding war for players and he might not want to spend a part of what is going to be a crucial summer for the club, chasing a deal for a 19-year-old when there might be other more established players there for the club to sign.

However, if Tottenham manage to sign Elmas they would have a player who has plenty of potential to grow and develop, which could leave the potential for a significant profit to be made on the Macedonian if he signs and fulfills his potential.
