Tottenham are in the hunt to sign West Ham left-back Arthur Masuaku, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the 25-year-old has caught the eye of Mauricio Pochettino’s spies and he is now a target for the North London club ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

It is understood that Borussia Dortmund are also eyeing up the DR Congo international but Spurs are interested in signing him as a potential replacement for exit-linked Danny Rose.

Good move for Tottenham?

Pochettino should not consider signing anyone from West Ham unless it’s Declan Rice because none of their players, except for the England midfielder, is good enough to break into the Spurs starting line-up.

Masuaku has played well in the last few weeks for the Hammers but away from that he has been pretty awful.

He is an attack-minded left-back but his defensive abilities are absolutely woeful.

Spurs fans will soon want Ben Davies starting every week if they do end up signing Masuaku as a replacement for Rose in the summer.

Likely to happen?

Masuaku’s deal with West Ham is set to expire in 2020 but the Hammers have the option to extend the defender’s £40,000-a-week [Spotrac] deal if they wish.

As he has played well in the last few weeks there’s every chance that they will trigger this option now to avoid interested teams like Tottenham from tabling low-ball offers in the summer.

Spurs should be eyeing better players than him though so it’s unlikely to happen.
