Kieran Tierney has spoken out on a viral clip of him footing the bill for a meal with his teammates, claiming the whole thing was a “fix”.

As reported in the Scottish Sun, the Celtic full-back, who has struggled with injury this season, was forced to pay a £1,000 tab after an evening out with his teammates when his credit card was picked at random.

And the 21-year-old was less than happy with the outcome.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “If you ask me if the pain of the dinner was sorer than my injury, then I’d have to say it isn’t.

“But it was a fix! It was horrible. I knew as soon as they did it, it would be me. I hate card roulette.

“I knew it would be me, as it’s just my luck.”

OPINION

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a professional footballer or not, £1,000 is a big hit to take. Tierney must have been absolutely gutted when it was his card pulled out to foot the bill, but this is the risk you take when you play roulette. Thankfully for him, Tierney will be more than minted enough to bear the brunt of his night out, but as for his teammates, they must have been laughing all the way home. Spending £1,000 in a restaurant must take something pretty special, but you can bet that whatever was on the menu, it will have tasted twice as delicious knowing that it hadn’t cost them a penny. Back to the football, and Tierney will be hoping he can cap off a fairly miserable season with a winner’s medal before he is forced to go in for a double hernia operation at the end of the campaign. After the torrid year he has put in, and after the latest sting his wallet has had to endure, it’s the least he deserves.
