Gordon Strachan has claimed that Leeds United would add “colour and noise” to the Premier League were they to get promoted back to the top flight.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are on the cusp of going up after securing a play-off place, and Strachan believes that it would be a good thing for the division if they did manage it.

Speaking to the Times, he said: “When Leeds get up, and they will one day, they will add colour and noise to the Premier League.

“It’s such a great package now but some teams go in and don’t really add to it. Leeds would.

“They would bring fans from all over the world. Leeds would add to the excitement.”

OPINION

You can’t help feeling that Strachan is right about this one. Leeds are one of the biggest clubs in England, and their absence from the top table has been a real shame for the game. There will be some fans who love having them around, others who loathe them perhaps, but you can’t deny that having a side of that scale and profile in the top flight can only be a good thing. After such a long and difficult time away from the Premier League, were Leeds o make it back, you can guarantee that their supporters would savour every moment. That can only be a positive thing, and the more sides we get to see in the Premier League who have had to walk over broken glass to get there, the better. This side play attractive, positive football, have an ardent fanbase, and a massive history. What’s not to love?
