Spurs have been offered Gareth Bale on a season-long loan deal, according to The Sun, and it’s the perfect opportunity for Daniel Levy to make a statement of intent that will put his side on the world map.

Real Madrid have offered him to Spurs for a £10million loan fee and £250k-a-week of his £600k-a-week wages. That’s about £20million for the season.

That’s a small amount for a player who could take Spurs to the next level. Bale might not turn Tottenham into a team who can win the league on his own, but with another 3-4 permanent additions over the summer, and Harry Kane and Gareth Bale firing in the goals, Spurs could be contenders.

Anyone that says Bale is past it is deluded.

His eye for goal, winning mentality and ability to change a game at the drop of his foot, is something that would benefit any side in the world. Pochettino should jump at the chance to add a player of this ilk to his squad.

A marquee signing like Bale is just what Spurs need. It would be a real statement on the global stage and could catapult them to another level both commercially and on the pitch.

The forward had a torrid season at Madrid and came under scrutiny from the club’s fans but the Spurs faithful would no doubt love for their club to re-sign a man who is regarded as a legend by many.

This is the sort of opportunity that just doesn’t come up very often and Levy must act now.
