Tottenham are embroiled in a £60 million battle for Barcelona forward Malcom, according to AS.

The Barcelona 22-year-old is being linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Borussia Dortmund understood to be keen on his signature.

But it is believed that the Catalan giants are more inlined to sell him to a Premier League side as they are of the opinion that they will be able to get a higher price for him that way.

Tottenham are mentioned as a potential destination, as are north London rivals Arsenal.

Good move for Tottenham?

Malcom has a shedload of potential. The youngster hasn’t really found his groove in Spain since signing from Bordeaux last summer, but all the signs are that the talent is there, even if the form is not. What he really needs is a team who are willing to show a bit of faith in him, and who are willing to give him the time needed to let his game flourish. Tottenham could well be that side. Look at the way Lucas Moura has found himself in recent times. Malcom is a fair bit younger, but the same principal holds true, and his potential far outweighs anything that Lucas has shown over the course of his career.

Likely to happen?

£60 million is a lot of money, especially for a player who could justifiably be regarded as a bit of a luxury. Spurs need to invest this summer, that much is clear, but surely a full-back, a central midfielder, maybe even another out and out goalscorer should be of higher priority than a  player who is far from the finished article and who probably wouldn’t get into the starting line up most weeks. It would be nice, but focus should lie somewhere else for Spurs.
