Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has launched a fuming two word tweet the way of NBC Sport commentator Arlo White after he delivered his verdict on the foul which led to Liverpool’s winner on Saturday night.

The pulsating game at St James’ Park, which finished 3-2 to the Reds, was decided by a Divock Origi header from a Xherdan Shaqiri free kick in the final five minutes of the match.

White took to his personal Twitter account to say that he was “not sure” whether Fabinho had been fouled by Matt Ritchie, with very little to no contact made between the players, and Shearer was quick to lash out at the suggestion that it could have been a foul.

Accompanied by the censored mouth and thinking face emojis, Shearer responded by saying: “Not sure!!!!!??”

Opinion

Shearer will be joined by every member of the Toon Army, as well as Rafael Benitez and the players out on the pitch at St James’ Park, at fuming over the free kick. If the slight tussle with Matt Ritchie is really enough to cause Fabinho to fall to the floor in such dramatic fashion, then the Brazilian should not be a footballer, it is as simple as that. Such a showing quite obviously demonstrates that he lacks the physical capabilities to take part in a contact sport and perhaps he would be better suited to targeting a place in Brazil’s diving team for the next Olympics. Joking aside, this was an embarrassing incident for someone who has time and again shown immense strength to be an anchor for his side. He best be wary when VAR comes around next season, for he is not going to get away which such blatant attempts to con referees any longer.
