Everton defender Seamus Coleman has insisted that Everton must continue their recent spell of good form into next season and hailed the fans for pushing their recent upturn in form saying the “atmosphere has been brilliant”.

The Toffees have won six of their last 10 Premier League games, and a 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Goodison Park at the start of March has been followed by shutouts in seven of the next nine games.

The run is even more impressive considering the Blues have beaten – and kept clean sheets – in home games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Speaking to Everton’s official website, Coleman stressed the importance of maintaining the momentum his side have picked up in the second half of the season.

“We have to go into next season positively,” the defender said. “The fans have really got with us in the past couple of months, the atmosphere has been brilliant and it’s fed through to the players.

“If the fans and players come together, we can go on and do good things. The team is full of competition [for places], which is what you want as players and we’re looking forward to next season.”

OPINION

It has been a tale of two halves for Everton this season. There were some calls earlier on in the season for Marco Silva to be sacked, especially following their 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Millwall at the end of January. But since the end of February and a 3-0 win away to Cardiff, Everton have really stepped it up. They haven’t lost since then, and have taken points off Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, keeping clean sheets against the latter three. Maybe the introduction of the ‘Goodison siren’ before the visit of derby rivals Liverpool has helped – that is the view of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Either way, Marco Silva has done a stellar job to turn things around for the Blues and they have one more opportunity to snatch points off a top-six rival when they go to Tottenham on Sunday. A win there would be the perfect way to cap off a great end to Everton’s season.
