Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has predicted Leeds will beat Derby County in the Championship play-off semi-finals.

Leeds missed out on automatic promotion but get a second chance to win promotion back to the Premier League, starting with a two-legged tie against Derby on Saturday.

Talking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 8am), Seaman thinks that Leeds will progress through to the final, where they’ll play either Aston Villa or West Brom.

Asked by host Brazil whether Leeds would beat Derby Seaman said, “I think they will, yes. The way Leeds played against Villa at the end of the of season was great to see.

“Hopefully, they’ll take that sort of performance into the play-offs.”

OPINION

It all depends which Leeds turn up on Saturday. If Leeds can recreate the sort of performance they pulled out against Aston Villa then they shouldn’t have a problem with Derby, a team they’ve already beaten twice in the Championship this season. However, their last game against Ipswich was pretty much the opposite of this. They were abject in the final game of the season against a team rock bottom and already relegated. Ipswich were down to 10 men and still managed to stun Leeds 3-2. Hopefully, that was the result of the match being an effective dead rubber (although had West Brom won Leeds would have slipped to fourth and found themselves with a much harder semi-final against Aston Villa) and Marcelo Bielsa’s men shouldn’t need much motivation to lift themselves for the play-offs. We think Leeds will move onto the final and we think they’ll end up playing Aston Villa at Wembley in the richest game of the season.
