You will not see a better goal then Glenn Middleton’s in the Glasgow Cup final on Tuesday night this season. Rangers might have eventually lost 3-2 to Celtic in a thrilling contest, but it will be the midfielder’s stunning 30 yard strike that will live long in the memory. The 19-year-old picks the ball up in a fairly innocuous position, has a glance up, and releases he’s actually in acres of space. From there, he turns and begins to drive inside, cutting past a couple of hooped shirts before unleashing an absolute thunderbolt right into the top corner. It was genuinely was unstoppable strike, the type that no keeper in the world would have got near, and Middleton will struggle to score a better one in his career. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. If you have seen it, watch it again. There are few ways that you can catch the eye as effectively as with a long distance piledriver, and if he can pull out a couple more of this ilk he will surely impress a manager who knows a thing or two about wonder goals himself. The future looks bright for Middleton, and this was a blistering reminder of his high potential.
