Reported Celtic target Graham Potter has a £2million price on his head, according to transfer expert Alan Nixon.

He claims in the Sun on Sunday (print edition, Sunday, p59) that’s the price any club would have to pay to prise the manager from Swansea.

The report claims that both West Brom and Celtic are interested in the 43-year-old who has enjoyed a decent first season with the Swans.

And it will cost big money to land him with the Sun claiming the £2million figure is based on the full size of his current contract. This fee is the same amount of money he would get if he was fired.

Potter was previously named as a contender for the Celtic job by the Scottish Sun, but he has distanced himself from the role claiming he has had no contact with the Scottish champions.

As quoted in the Daily Record, he said: “It’s just speculation in the media… I’ve had no contact with Celtic.”

OPINION

Neil Lennon landed Celtic’s eighth title in a row when his side beat Aberdeen 3-0 on Saturday. That’s his biggest win since being in charge but it still might not be enough to land him the job. Potter might have said that that it’s just speculation, but he didn’t go as far as to say he didn’t want the job and he would surely relish the chance to follow in Brendan Rodgers’ footsteps and tackle the biggest club in Scotland. It’s not the easiest job in the world at the moment. They might still be the best team in Scotland by a fair distance but fans and the the Celtic hierarchy will demand winning everything domestically and winning in style. Steven Gerrard is ready to start part two of his rebuilding process at Rangers this summer and there’s a feeling that they will be a lot closer to their rivals next season. £2million is a hell of a lot of money as well for a manager who’s relatively untested. That could be the thing that scuppers this move.
