Chris Sutton shared that he thought Rangers pursuing Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson was potentially a good move for Steven Gerrard’s side.

The pundit admitted he hadn’t seen the 6ft 3in tall centre-back (Source: Transfermarkt) play but was led to believe that the 21-year-old was a really talented young player.

Sutton also highlighted that he heard Edmundson was aggressive and claimed it sounded like he would fit the mould at the Gers.

“George Edmundson? A raw, aggressive player..erm it’s interesting how Rangers are going about their business in terms of bringing in young players, well not always young and hungry cause they brought Greg Stewart in and I do think that’s a bit of a strange one…,” said Sutton on BT Sports’ Periscope stream (8mins).

“Erm but I haven’t seen him play, I’m led to believe he is a really talented young aggressive player which would fit the mould for Rangers.”

OPINION

Rangers are thought to be quite far gone in their pursuit of Edmundson as Football Insider previously reported that the Gers had made an offer. Based on what Sutton has heard, it sounds like good news that Gerrard’s team are trying hard to get the enforcer. Sutton isn’t one to praise Rangers for the sake of it given his Celtic connection, so it says so much about how talented Edmundson must be for the pundit to speak positively about him. The 21-year-old has wowed for Oldham this season, making 54 appearances, and seems to be the type of player who’d flourish at Ibrox. This is because not only is he young and hungry but he is a defender who is comfortable on the ball. Edmundson showed how comfortable he is with the ball at his feet in his 2018/19 campaign as he managed to score twice as well as rack up five assists.
