Chris Sutton appeared to give his approval to Celtic hiring Neil Lennon as their manager on a full-time basis.

The Hoops confirmed via their official Twitter account on Saturday that they had offered Lennon the job as permanent manager of the club and that further details would follow in the coming days.

Sutton delivered his verdict on the Hoops’ decision and revealed that Lennon had passed his audition to be full-time manager with flying colours and urged fans to judge him when he has been able to build his own team.

“It may split opinion amongst the Celtic fans but as an audition Neil Lennon has passed with flying colours…,” wrote Sutton on his verified Twitter account.

“His last full season as manager 99pts 102 goals…Judge him when it’s his team… Investment and recruitment is the key… it’s important for everyone to get behind him.”

OPINION

While Celtic did defeat Hearts 2-1 on Saturday to lift the Scottish Cup and complete their treble treble, it was still a surprise to hear official confirmation that the club wanted Lennon to stay. However the Hoops have made their decision and it doesn’t matter if they’ve made the right choice, what is important is that Celtic fans get behind the manager. Lennon has the summer to utilise the transfer market and make the current squad his own; and it will be interesting to see what he does. When Lennon took over the reigns from Brendan Rodgers all he had to do was continue the current Leicester City manager’s work and not change too much. However with their bound to be players exiting in the summer, as loan deal ends, that simply isn’t an option. Hopefully Lennon gets the backing on the board he needs to modify Celtic’s squad, otherwise he may struggle to be make the Hoops as successful next season.
