Following an impressive spell on loan at Wigan Athletic, Reece James would be a shrewd signing for the Toffees.

Marco Silva has identified the Chelsea defender as one of his main targets, according to Football Insider.

James was named in the EFL team of the year after his performances helped Wigan survive in the Championship. The 19-year-old looked a class above in a struggling Wigan side and he could really thrive in a side full of quality.

With three goals and as many assists to his name last term, James’ energy and enthusiasm could really benefit Silva’s Everton.

Seamus Coleman is the first choice right-back at the club but competition from James could push the defender on even further and James would be an ideal long-term replacement.

The defender would arrive with a point to prove having never featured in the Premier League – a determined attitude could really help motivate others in the squad.

Chelsea, however, have had their transfer ban upheld. This makes the deal a more difficult one as Chelsea will want to keep their players in order to compete. The Londoners are only able to sign players under the age of 16.

It would be an intelligent move from the Toffees and James’ value could rocket in the future. He has the potential to become a star and at just 19-years-old, he is more than capable of playing top-flight football now.
