Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has said that Gareth Bale would be an “amazing signing” for Spurs and that he could make a “massive impact” in north London.

Speculation has reached fever pitch over the future of Bale after he was an unnamed sub in Real Madrid’s last game of the season and went straight down the tunnel after the final whistle.

A previous Mail report had claimed the former Spurs player had been offered to Daniel Levy for a £10m loan fee for the season and £250k of his £600k-a-week wages.

Now, talking in the Mail, Redkanpp has said, “Whoever signs him will be signing a fantastic player. Any club he can go to he can make a difference – he can turn any club around.

“There’s not a club in the country where he wouldn’t make a massive impact. I think he’s an incredible talent.

“Anybody who gets Gareth Bale is going to lift them. If it’s Spurs, Man United, whoever it is, it would be an amazing signing for them.”

OPINION

Spurs fans seem mainly in favour of a sensational return for Bale to north London, although a few think it’s a mistake to go back for a player who’s past his peak. We’re with the former. At 29-years-old Bale still has years left in him and we think he’ll be revitalised after leaving Real Madrid, where his career has stagnated. His treatment at Madrid seems unfair. It’s not his fault that he’s on £600k-a-week and it’s not his fault that Zinedine Zidane doesn’t seem to be able to accommodate him in his system. Bale is a world-class talent and deserves to be playing week-in, week-out in front of an adoring crowd and he’d certainly get that at Tottenham. The finances shouldn’t be a big problem for a one-season loan deal, although if any other club were to come in for a permanent deal then Spurs would be scuppered. Only Man City and Man United in England would have the financial clout to even consider this and Pep wouldn’t want him at City. That leaves Man United, who are rebuilding this summer, but would surely baulk at another high-profile big-money deal after what happened with Alexis Sanchez. Spurs would make a lot of sense.
