Rangers are in advanced talks with Liverpool to sign attacker Sheyi Ojo on loan, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that Steven Gerrard wants to move quickly to seal a temporary swoop for the 21-year-old winger amid interest from other clubs.

It is understood that Ojo has only just penned a new five-year deal with Liverpool, but the Champions League finalists are ready to send him out on loan once again after his temporary stint at Stade de Reims came to an end on Friday night as he was an unused substitute in a 3-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain.

Good move for Rangers?

If Gerrard wants Ojo as a replacement for Ryan Kent then he is barking up the wrong tree because the England Under-21 international has had a miserable couple of seasons of being loaned out by Liverpool.

Last term the £10,000-a-week [Spotrac] wide-man made just 18 Championship starts while on loan at Fulham in their promotion-winning season.

While he was on the books with the play-off winners, he made just eight league appearances between January and the end of the campaign, and didn’t even make the bench in the last eight games.

At Reims, Ojo has also struggled to get game-time with just 15 Ligue 1 appearances, three of which being starts.

Rangers need to see themselves as being better than a team like Reims and they cannot sign players who have been on the fringes of their squad.

Gerrard might be getting himself a new Ovie Ejaria, rather than a new Kent.

Likely to happen?

Gerrard’s relationship with Liverpool means that he might have first dibs on players like Ojo, so there is a good chance that a deal could be struck to sign the winger.

Other clubs are said to be interested in him, but at this stage it seems as though Rangers are in pole position.
