Rangers are ready to cash in on Borna Barisic in the summer and expect to make a profit on the Croatia international despite a poor campaign at Ibrox, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news website claims that Barisic, 26, cost the Light Blues £2.2million when Steven Gerrard signed him from Osijek last summer after impressing against them in the Europa League qualifiers.

It is now understood that the left-back could be on his way of Ibrox this summer after he struggled to feature in the final weeks of the campaign as Gerrard opted to play either Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan ahead of him.

OPINION

Barisic has had a very poor season with Rangers. Although he played well against them for Osijek over two legs in the Europa League play-offs, it was clear that those two performances were about as good as it gets for the Croatian defender. He did start well for Rangers, supplying three assists in his first two Scottish Premiership appearances, but after that it all went downhill as he struggled for fitness and failed to beat Halliday and Flanagan into Gerrard’s first team plans. Barisic’s miserable season should be a lesson to Gerrard and director of football Mark Allen to avoid signing players, simply because they have played well against them. Some players for teams lower down in the Scottish Premiership have had good games against the Gers this season but the Glasgow giants aren’t expected to push to sign them. As long as they can make a profit off Barisic then at least some good will come of his move to Ibrox.
