Wolves fans were chanting that Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling was top of the league during their loss to Liverpool, according to Daniel Storey.

The journalist, who has written for BBC Sport as well as Four Four Two, shared via his verified Twitter account that the chant by Wolves supporters about the Man City star did not go down well at Anfield.

“Wolves fans chanting “Raheem Sterling, he’s top of the league” That has *not* gone down well at Anfield,” wrote Storey.

OPINION

Well Wolves fans really tried to rattle Liverpool supporters on Sunday based on this update. Sterling left the Reds to join Man City and it’s fair to say he still isn’t the most popular figure at Anfield. Also with the Reds being so close to beating Man City to the title, the chant was extra painful. However with that being said despite missing out on the Premier League trophy, Liverpool fans still had something to celebrate against Wolves. The Reds secured a comfortable 2-0 victory with Sadio Mane getting both goals. Due to the 27-year-old forward getting a brace, it meant that he ended up jointly winning the Premier League Golden Boot with Reds teammate Mohamed Salah and Arsenal attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. While it is a personal accolade more than a team award, the fact Liverpool had two players with a claim to the Golden Boot surely means success will come to Anfield shortly.
