Wolves fans will surely love the ambition shown by midfielder Joao Moutinho after he called on the club to “dream bigger” following their first season back in the Premier League.

Speaking in an interview published on the club’s official website, the Portuguese said that the ultimate aim is to improve ahead of next term.

“Now we need to rest, and I think we need to think bigger, to dream bigger,” the 32-year-old said. “That’s what we want, the club wants to be better.

“That’s what I want, all my team mates want, to be better and do all we can to win something. This year was very good, but we try to better next year.”

And that is exactly what Wolves should be doing. They had a fantastic first season in the top flight of English football, finishing seventh and reaching the FA Cup semi-finals, knocking out Liverpool and Manchester United along the way.

While they brought in a good number of players last term, Nuno Espirito Santo is spearheading a project at Molineux that is going to take a number of years to truly proliferate – if indeed it does.

You could say that the project has already began to proliferate; a seventh-placed finish in the first season back in a much-improved top flight is no easy feat.

But it is the ambition shown by everyone at Wolves that should excite fans – everyone seems to be pulling in the same direction.

While the players on the pitch are showing ambition with fantastic performances, those brokering the deals off it – including super-agent Jorge Mendes – are conducting excellent business.

The permanent signing of striker Raul Jimenez for a club-record £30million says all you need to know about the kind of ambition the club are showing, and you can bet there will be more to come.

Next season, another top-eight finish would be fantastic, for Wolves need to keep up these performances on a consistent basis to ensure they can attract good talent.

And aside from the performances, there is plenty of ambition within the squad to keep them there.
