Ian Holloway shared that he thought Wolves had been sensational in their 2018/19 campaign and claimed Aston Villa fans would love for their club to catch up with them.
The former QPR boss gave his one-word verdict on Nuno Espirto Santo’s side after watching the Villans overcome Derby in the Championship play-off final to get back in the Premier League.
Holloway noted that given how Wolves had been sensational in their first season back in England’s top-flight, Villans supporters will want their club to match their local rival’s success.
“Wolves have been sensational this season so now Villa fans will be loving it as they’ve got to try and catch up with the Wolves,” said Holloway on talkSPORT (Monday May 27th, 17:11).

Holloway wasted no time re-lighting the fire in the rivalry between Wolves and Villa. The former QPR boss had no need to mention Wolves after the Villans won promotion, but went out of his way to rave about them. Holloway is spot-on of course to claim Wolves were sensational in their 2018/19 campaign and it would be no surprise if they continue wowing in their 2019/20 campaign. However Wolves may have to add some new recruits to their squad for that to be the case as they’re set to compete in the Europa League. The European tournament is sure to stretch Wolves’ current squad and extra bodies are needed to help them deal with the extra fixtures. As for Holloway’s remarks on Villa fans, he is correct once again. Of course Villa supporters would love to see their club replicate Wolves’ success in their first season back in the Premier League, but that may be easier said than done.
