Wolves are in the hunt to sign Benfica defender Andre Almedia, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper claim that Wolves along with Everton, Southampton, Brighton and Leicester City are all keen on signing the Portuguese right-back who could be snapped up for £10million this summer.

The Sun report that the Toffees and Wolves lead the race to sign Almedia and that the 28-year-old flyer had made it clear he wants to test himself in the Premier League.

Good move for Wolves?

Yes.

Wolves need to bulk up their squad ahead of being in the next season’s Europa League and signing Almeida would certainly help them achieve that goal.

The right-back is not only solid at the back and reliable when called into action, he is a threat when going forward.

Almedia was involved in 14 goals in his 2018/19 campaign during his 53 appearances for Benfica as he scored twice while also racking up 12 assists.

Wolves could do with another attacking full-back just like Almedia and given that he loves bursting forward, he’d easily fit into Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Likely to happen?

Wolves appear to have a very good chance of signing Almeida but he seems to be highly sought after so there’s no guarantee they’d win the race for his signature.

Given all the teams chasing the 28-year-old, it may come down to who acts the quickest or who puts the most lucrative offer down on the table for him.

Wolves are more than capable of acting quickly in the transfer market and have shown they’re not scared to splash the cash, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Almeida joined the club.

However until the club make their interest concrete it’s hard to say if they’ll be successful with any certainty.
