Ian Abrahams boldly claimed that Tottenham’s clash with Ajax on Wednesday night was the biggest game in Spurs’ history.

When you consider that Spurs have won European cups in the past, won FA Cups and been in existence since 1882; to say that a game is the biggest in the club’s history is rather eye-opening.

This is especially the case when you consider that Tottenham’s clash with Ajax is only the semi-final of the Champions League not the final itself; yet Abrahams was so confident that Spurs were set for the biggest night in their history, he shared his thoughts on talkSPORT despite being aware some Spurs fans will disagree him.

“I mean it’s the biggest game in the club’s history I would argue I know they’ve won the double, European trophies before, Spurs fans will tell me that, but I think tomorrow night is the biggest night in their history and have to play as such yet,” said Abrahams on talkSPORT (11:51, Tuesday May 7th).

Instead of dismissing the idea that Spurs’ clash with Ajax is the biggest game in Tottenham’s history, Jim White agreed.

“I don’t think you’re wrong about that Ian, the incentive to go out there…a place in the Champions League,” replied the talkSPORT host.

Abrahams’ opinion on Spurs can always be taken with a pinch of salt as he supports their rivals West Ham; but for White to agree shows that Abrahams may actually have a point.

While it’s still strong to dub Spurs’ clash with Ajax the biggest in their history, it’s certainly one of the most important matches they’ve had in recent memory.

Spurs haven’t won a trophy since 2008, when they picked up the League Cup, and yet if they beat Ajax by two clear goals on Wednesday, they will be only one game away from winning one of the most prestigious trophies around.

So when you consider that and that White doesn’t hesitate to agree with the idea that Wednesday’s game is the biggest in Spurs’ history as a result, Mauricio Pochettino is surely feeling the heat.

The Spurs manager is no doubt aware that there is immense pressure on Spurs to overcome Ajax on Wednesday as who knows how long it will be before they come this close to lifting the Champions League again.
