West Ham are seeking a short term fix for their goalkeeping options as hype builds over the potential of young shot stopper Nathan Trott, according to Claret and Hugh.

The West Ham news website claim that the Irons, who were linked with Cardiff City keeper Neil Etheridge by the reputable Football Insider, are only looking to sign someone who can fill the void set to be left by Adrian this summer until Trott is ready to be included among the senior side.

Lukasz Fabianski is currently the number one choice between the sticks and with understudy Adrian set to depart Manuel Pellegrini needs someone to come in for a year, with Trott said to be set for a loan exit.

It is stated that the 20-year-old, who has not played for the first team as yet, is viewed as one of the most exciting goalkeeping talents in the country.

Opinion

It seems as though West Ham are willing to hedge their bets on Trott making the grade at senior level but as a young goalkeeper that is an awful lot of pressure to have on his shoulders. He is not tested at first team level yet and a loan will help the Hammers determine if he has what it takes to be playing for them any time soon. Going for a goalkeeper who will fill the gap for a year is perhaps not thinking enough about the medium term, when they hope Trott will be battling for a senior spot. If he has not made the step up expected of him, then it will be up to an ageing Fabianski or whoever this short term stopper is to take the reigns between the sticks. Maybe Pellegrini should widen his scope and find someone who can battle with Fabianski before Trott’s emergence into the senior side. That would help relieve some of the expectation on the youngster and allow him to focus on his game rather than feeling as though he has got to improve quickly.
