COMMENTARY

Many West Ham fans were up in arms over the club reportedly pursuing the services of Millwall goalkeeper David Martin. London News Online reported on Friday that the Hammers were closing in on signing the 33-year-old shot-stopper as he was yet to pen a new contract with the Championship club. The outlet reported that Martin’s Millwall deal is set to expire in the summer and that he could jump to the Hammers as they were keen for him to be their third-choice keeper. While Martin would potentially be joining on a free transfer and has connections to the club due to his father being Hammers legend Alvin Martin, it wasn’t enough to stop several Hammers supporters being fuming over the idea of signing him. One Hammers fans claimed it should be illegal to sign players from Millwall due to the rivalry between the two clubs; while others just deemed Martin not good enough to play in the Premier League. Martin is a very experienced goalkeeper having played in the Championship, League One and League Two in his career; but it seems that isn’t enough for Hammers fans to get on board with his potential arrival.
