West Ham have confirmed that Adrian, Samir Nasri and Andy Carroll will both leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of June.

The news broke on Wednesday afternoon on the official club website that the senior trio were to leave after a joint service of 13 seasons at the Hammers.

Joint-Chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan said regarding the pair: “Andy and Adrian have both been great servants to West Ham United throughout their time at the club and we thank them for their loyalty and commitment to the Claret and Blue cause”.

Carroll, 30, was injury prone throughout his West Ham career and only appeared 14 times this season and failed to score in the Premier League, whereas Spaniard Adrian became second choice behind Polish stopper Lukas Fabianski.

Nasri meanwhile joined in January but struggled for game time as injuries kept him on the sidelines.

OPINION

This was a decision that needed to happen for every party involved. Manuel Pellegrini will be relieved to get two high wage earners of the contract bill and focus his attentions on using that money wisely in the summer market. Adrian became a hero in his stay at West Ham after joining in 2013 from Real Betis and now was the right time for him to move on from the club. He only managed to make five appearances this season, all of which came in cup competitions as Fabianski kept his place for the league outings. It will come as no surprise to everyone at the club that this has happened with captain Mark Noble earlier confirming he expects a group of the senior players to leave to make way for younger and hungrier players. This is the first stage complete of that with the fans now being able to look ahead to potential signings of more exciting prospects in the months to come.
