West Ham are ready to offer Tottenham attacker Fernando Llorente a chance to stay in the Premier League, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper claim that the Spurs forward is set to depart the club on a free transfer in the summer with his £75,000-a-week contract (Source: Spotrac) due to expire in June.

The Sun report that the Hammers are keen on Llorente as Manuel Pellegrini is looking to bolster his attacking options with Andy Carroll injured and out of contract.

Good move for West Ham?

Potentially.

Llorente knows the Premier League like the back of his hand after playing 69 times in the division, but his recent campaigns at Spurs haven’t seen him be among the goals on a regular basis.

The 34-year-old attacker has only managed 13 goals in 65 outings for Mauricio Pochettino’s side since joining them from Swansea in 2017; and that isn’t a lot at all.

While Llorente has mainly been used from the bench, the Hammers need a forward to arrive who can hit the ground running and be a force in front of goal.

The forward’s recent track record doesn’t suggest he will do that, but given that he would be able to be signed on a free transfer, it’s perhaps worth taking a chance on him.

Likely to happen?

The Sun previously reported Llorente would be leaving Spurs when his current deal ends, so it’s very likely he will be changing clubs this summer.

However it’s debatable whether he will rock up at the London Stadium.

According to the Sun the Hammers have to compete with Leicester City and Napoli for the forward’s signature; and both of those clubs are capable of making the veteran very tempting offers.

It may come down to whoever can offer him the most money or the most playing time; so until the Hammers make their move, it’s unclear whether they have a chance.
