West Ham have tabled an contract proposal to current Newcastle United ace and former Hammer Mohamed Diame as his current deal comes to an end on Tyneside, according to Sabah.
The Turkish publication claim on their website that the Irons are joined by fellow Londoners and Premier League rivals Crystal Palace as well as Super Lig outfit Fenerbahce in making a move to snap up the midfielder on a free transfer with Newcastle looking unlikely to extend his stay at St James’ Park.
The 35-cap Senegal international made 79 appearances for West Ham during his time in east London while he has 103 Newcastle outings under his belt, 29 of those coming this season.
Good move for West Ham?
Reunions are a funny thing and there is no guaranteeing he would be as much of a success on a return to the east Londoners as he was during his first spell at the club.
West Ham could do with some more experience in their midfield and in Diame they would have a powerful option in the middle whose physical presence is unlike any one else who has been a regular this season.
At 31-years-old he is no spring chicken and if he was not a free transfer you can imagine that West Ham would not be looking at him.
Instead he could prove to be a bargain deal who helps bolster Manuel Pellegrini’s side going into next season.

Likely to happen?
It is said that Fenerbahce’s offer is a tempting one for Diame and it could well be they are simply offering better terms than the Irons.
That would be understandable – West Ham are not likely to be wanting to give him too much money or a long-term deal due to his age and injury problems, especially when they are wanting to push up the table as a club.
He would probably be a backup option and Diame is going to be wanting regular football instead. Never say never but a reunion looks unlikely right now.
