West Ham are keen on signing Millwall goalkeeper David Martin, according to London News Online.

The football outlet claim that the Hammers look set to sign the 6ft 2in tall shot-stopper (Source: Transfermarkt) with them wanting him to be their third choice stopper.

London News Online report that Martin is set to be out of contract in the summer as it stands, but that the experienced goalkeeper has been offered a new deal.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes, although surely Martin will be playing backup to No.1 keeper Lukasz Fabianski rather than be third choice.

The 33-year-old has plenty of experience having played 282 times in League One, 48 times in the Championship and even 10 times in League Two.

While Martin may not have featured in the Premier League, the fact he was deemed good enough for Liverpool to sign in 2006 during his career, shows he could probably make the step up.

This is especially the case when you consider he would only be signed as back-up.

Likely to happen?

There is definitely a chance the Hammers could get their man with Martin’s Millwall contract being set to expire soon.

Also Sun journalist Alan Nixon added on his personal Twitter account on Friday that Martin to the Hammers could be a story that there is at least some truth in.

“Believe there’s something in that,” wrote the reporter.

West Ham would no doubt be able to lure Martin to the London Stadium as well, not just because they’re currently playing in the Premier League but because Martin’s father, Alvin Martin, is a Hammers legend so the 33-year-old probably has some fondness for the London club.
