Tottenham are in talks about signing Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, according to AS.

The Spanish outlet claim that Spurs are willing to pay £51.9million (60million euros) for the 23-year-old central midfielder and that him joining the London club could be key to Real Madrid being able to sign Christian Eriksen.

AS report that Spurs and Betis have been negotiating a deal for Lo Celso for the last few days and point out that 20% of what Tottenham pay the Spanish club will go to Paris St Germain.

Good move for Tottenham?

Yes, although Eriksen leaving won’t be ideal to say the least.

Lo Celso is an energetic midfielder who is able to be a force in front of goal as he is capable of scoring for himself or carving out chances for his teammates.

This is shown by the fact the 23-year-old midfielder scored 16 goals and registered six assists in the 46 appearances he made in his 2018/19 campaign.

The only issue regarding signing Lo Celso aside from Eriksen’s exit potentially being helped, is the fact Spurs are going to have to splash the cash on him.

Real Betis only recently permanently secured his services after his loan spell at the club in his 2018/19 season, as covered by Marca, and they paid PSG somewhere in the region of £21.6million so they will want to make a significant profit on him, as well as wanting to cover the French giant’s 20% sell on fee.

Likely to happen?

AS can be hit and miss with their accuracy but there maybe some truth to Spurs trying to negotiate a deal for Lo Celso.

This is because it isn’t the first time the 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Mauricio Pochettino’s side as The Sun previously claimed that Spurs were battling Everton for his signature.

So while Spurs fans shouldn’t get too excited about Lo Celso’s potential arrival just yet; perhaps they should allow themselves to get a little giddy at the idea that such a talented midfielder could arrive at the club this summer.
