Tottenham have got work underway over a £12million deal for Leeds United winger Jack Clarke this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the young forward, who quickly established himself as a homegrown fan favourite with his performances down the flanks, has been targeted by the Premier League heavyweights and that they are looking to snap him up for an eight figure fee.

Clarke, 18, broke through the youth ranks to play 25 times for Leeds’ senior side, scoring twice and setting up two more goals for his teammates, missing out towards the end of the season after a health scare suffered versus Middlesbrough, which saw him hospitalised.

Opinion

Clarke is undoubtedly one of the best young performers Leeds have at their disposal but £12million could go an awfully long way to helping them improve their squad in a bid to seal promotion. Is one player worth more than two or three to bolster the squad? That is for Marcelo Bielsa to decide this summer and while it would be bitterly disappointing to see Clarke leave Elland Road at the start of his fledgling career, he might already feel ready for a taste of Premier League football. Are Tottenham really going to be able to play him as often as he might like though? He is still very much a raw talent and Mauricio Pochettino will have to work with him closely to refine his talents and get him up to the level that Spurs demand. Maybe signing him and loaning him out, even back to Leeds, would suit all parties involved. Either way, Spurs seem keen on the teenager and Leeds face a battle to keep him on board.
