Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen could potentially see his future at the club in doubt this summer, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to reshape his squad, with Spurs, according to a report from Mercato365, sending scouts to watch Lyon striker Moussa Dembele ahead of a potential summer move for the Frenchmen.

Janssen has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular at Tottenham since signing a four-year-deal with the club, following Spurs agreeing a reported £17million fee with AZ Alkmaar for the Dutch forward in 2016.

The Netherlands international arrived at Tottenham with a growing reputation after scoring 27 goal in his last season in the Dutch top flight with Alkmaar, but he has failed to live up to anywhere near those heights in North London, managing only two Premier League goals in just 30 top flight appearances in three years with Spurs.

Pochettino has seemingly very little confidence in Janssen and has limited the Dutchman to just two Premier League appearances this campaign, which have both come recently from the bench, with the 24-year-old only recently being named in Tottenham’s match day squad after spending most of the season in the wilderness.

Despite Janssen recent return to Tottenham’s match day squad, Pochettino is still reportedly keen on adding to his centre forward options this summer, with an injury to Harry Kane leaving the Argentine short of quality options up front.

It seems as though Pochettino’s focus has now turned to Lyon’s Dembele, with the Frenchmen impressing in his first year with the club in Ligue 1 this year, having signed from Celtic, where he scored 51 goals in 94 appearances, last summer.

Dembele has been in red-hot form in France this term too by averaging a goal every 140 minutes, and registering 13 league goals as well as providing four assists, for a Lyon side which currently sit in third place in the Ligue 1 table.

Tottenham could have strong competition for Dembele’s signature with reported interest from Manchester United, who will be looking to improve their forward options as well this summer, so may need to act swiftly to secure the 24-year-old’s signature.

Were Tottenham to sign to Dembele it would be a very good addition to their squad, with the Frenchmen offering more pace and mobility than Janssen to play the sort of intense pressing football Pochettino likes his sides to play with.

Janssen’s future would definitely be in doubt if Tottenham secure the signing of Dembele, or another forward this summer, with a move away potentially the best solution for both parties.
