Chris Sutton dubbed Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli overrated and he will soon regret it.

Sutton was on BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday and himself along with Alistair Bruce-Ball ahead of being on air asked fans who were the most overrated and underrated players this season.

BBC Radio 5 Live’s Twitter account revealed that Sutton thought Spurs’ Alli was overrated while Norwich City attacker Teemu Pukki was underrated.

However Sutton is barking up the wrong tree to call Alli of all Spurs players overrated and you feel he has jumped on the midfielder’s back just because of his recent form.

The 23-year-old hasn’t looked his best in recent weeks, his displays against Bournemouth and Ajax were particularly disappointing,  and he seems an easy target to pick on.

Alli’s passing has looked sloppy, his decision-making has been worrying and he has looked a shadow of his usual self.

However Alli is highly-rated among most for the right reasons.

When at his best the midfielder can cut through defences using his pace and passes in order to make Spurs a formidable force going forward.

Alli’s qualities are reflected through his stats as it’s ridiculously impressive that at the age of 23-years-old, he has scored 42 goals, while assisting 32, in 130 appearances in the Premier League.

How many other 23-year-old’s have been that successful in England’s top-flight? There can’t be many.

Alli has more than justified having a glowing reputation in the game, the fact of the matter is, he is just going through a rough patch of form.

However the midfielder has hit blips before and emerged from them a better player.

So with that in mind Sutton will soon regret calling Alli overrated as it’s more than likely that the midfielder will wow on a big stage sooner rather than later and justify why several people rate him.
