Chris Sutton was stunned over the suggestion that someone considered Tottenham attacker Harry Kane overrated.

Sutton was on BBC 606 alongside Alistair Bruce-Ball and the pair wanted to hear who fans thought were the most overrated footballers in the Premier League.

Bruce-Ball started reading off names such as Manchester United’s Fred, Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier before eventually revealing that someone had texted into to suggest Kane, and Sutton simply couldn’t believe it.

“Wow, wow… who? Typical nameless (when no name on message),” said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live (19:05, Sunday May 5th).

OPINION

To call Kane overrated is bold and it’s no surprise that the person who suggested him didn’t want to be named and shamed. The 25-year-old is highly-rated and seen as being world-class by most, so he is an easy target when it comes to listing overrated players. Too often in modern football, the phrase world-class is banded about and used to describe unworthy players. However Kane has done nothing but justify the fact he is among the world’s elite when it comes to attackers. The 25-year-old has scored 24 goals in 39 outings this season and scored an incredible 41 goals in 48 matches in his 2017/18 campaign. Those sort of numbers are incredible and imply that he deserves all the praise that comes his way. While Kane’s trophy cabinet isn’t exactly bursting with trophies, it’s only a matter of time before he racks up the silverware. You never know the forward may still find himself picking up a Champions League winners medal this season.
