Tottenham have been told they must pay a fee in the region of £60million to secure the signature of James Maddison according to Football Insider.

The reputable football outlet claims that Spurs have made contact with the Foxes for the 22-year-old who joined Leicester last summer for £22.5million.

Brendan Rodgers is expecting bids for one of his prized assets who is currently on international duty with England Under-21’s.

Maddison has enjoyed a brilliant first season in the Premier League, creating the most chances by any player in the whole campaign. Mauricio Pochettino is said to be a big admirer of the midfielder and that even considered placing a bid when he was still at Norwich City.

It was rumoured earlier on Wednesday that Pochettino was preparing to use the windfall earned from their Champions League run to secure Maddison’s services.

Good Move for Tottenham?

It is clear that Tottenham are looking for attacking reinforcements in the window after being reportedly linked with players such as Jack Grealish. Bringing in a young English player who has already enjoyed a great season in the Premier League can be seen as a low risk move.

As mentioned, Maddison has created the most chances in the Premier League this season and has proved his worth as an attacking midfielder that could fit into most sides.

In his 36 appearances in the league this campaign, he managed to record seven goals and the same amount of assists with one of his most powerful assets being his set-piece ability. All of this makes for good reading and the England youngster would be perfect for an attacking Spurs side.

Likely to happen?

This is a difficult one to judge with Tottenham having been reluctant to purchase players in the last couple of years. In fact they have not made a signature in the previous two markets.

The fact that Leicester have named a price for their star-man would seem like they would be willing to let him leave, and the reported £37.5million profit does seem appealing for them.

Maddison’s move to Spurs would all rely on whether or not Daniel Levy is willing to give Pochettino funds in the transfer window, but with the new stadium complete and a Champions League final to come – this could very well happen.
